Dojo History

After moving to the Island I was hoping to continue my aikido classes. I looked around for a dojo without success.

In 1998 my sensei Aad Thijs encouraged me to start teaching class so I had the opportunity to continue my training. Classes started on a 100 square feet mat in a small room with 2 students.

In 1999, after more people showed interest in taking the class, I moved the class to a school where the Judo school gave me access to their 40 mats.

In 1999 our small dojo officially joined the United States Aikido Federation, Eastern Region under the name
Wago no Michi St.Maarten.

In 2000 Yamada Sensei appointed Frank Wong Loi Sing sensei from Curacao to be thetechnical director and to help us develop Aikido on Sint Maarten. In July of 2005 Anthony Chong  joined the dojo and started teaching classes along with Antonio Gummels Sensei, but after just a year moved back to Curaçao.
